CEEA-IdISBa | Experimental Surgery and Animal Facility

The Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee of the Institut d'Investigació Sanitària de les Illes Balears (CEEA-IdISBa) is the body specifically responsible for ensuring compliance with Royal Decree 53/2013. Its main role is to issue the mandatory report regarding research protocols involving the use of animals.

Functions of the CEEA‑IdISBa

According to Chapter VI, Article 38 of Royal Decree 53/2013, the CEEA‑IdISBa shall carry out at least the following functions:

  • Advise the personnel responsible for the animals on matters related to animal welfare regarding their acquisition, housing, care, and use.
  • Advise staff on the application of the requirement of replacement, reduction and refinement (the 3Rs), and keep them informed of technical and scientific advances in the implementation of this requirement.
  • Establish and review internal operating procedures concerning the control, communication and monitoring of information related to animal welfare.
  • Advise on rehoming or adoption schemes, including the appropriate socialisation of animals that will be rehomed or adopted.
  • In addition, prepare the report referred to in Article 33.1 and monitor the projects, taking into account their impact on the animals used, as well as determining and evaluating the elements that best contribute to replacement, reduction and refinement.

Autorització de Projectes

Per garantir el benestar dels animals i una recerca de qualitat, al centre es fomenta l'aplicació del principi de les 3 erres (Reduir, Refinar i Reemplaçar) de Russell i Burch (1959).
A més, es realitzen controls sanitaris periòdics als animals seguint les recomanacions de FELASA, així com controls higiènic-sanitaris del pinso, viruta, aigua, ambient i superfícies de les instal·lacions.

Els projectes amb animals d'experimentació que es duguin a terme a les instal·lacions de la plataforma han de complir la legislació vigent (RD 53/2013). Per això, tots aquells projectes que s'hagin de dur a terme a les dependències de la PT-CEEST de l'IdISBa hauran de:

  1. Sol·licitar l'informe d'avaluació del Comitè d'Ètica d'Experimentació Animal de l'IdISBa (CEEA-IdISBa) mitjançant el formulari de Sol·licitud d'Avaluació CEEA-IdISBa (vegeu documents més avall):
  2. Un cop obtingut l'informe favorable del CEEA, s'ha de sol·licitar l'avaluació ètica a l'òrgan habilitat
  3. Finalment, el projecte ha de ser autoritzat per l'autoritat competent:
