Description | Experimental Surgery and Animal Facility

The Experimental Surgery and Animal Facility Platform (PT‑CEEST) of the Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa) is an animal experimentation establishment authorised by the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Territory of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands, under registration number ES070400006177.

The PT‑CEEST IdISBa was created to provide specialised services for preclinical research based on animal models. It is located on level -1 of Building S, adjacent to the facilities of the Son Espases University Hospital (HUSE). It features conventional facilities suitable for carrying out research and teaching activities with laboratory animals, fully compliant with both Spanish regulations (RD 53/2013) and European legislation (Directive 2010/63/EU).

In addition, PT‑CEEST is an affiliated unit of the Animal Models Hub within the Biomodels and Biobanks Platform of the Carlos III Health Institute (PISCIII‑BB).

Species maintained and, in some cases, bred:

  • Rattus norvegicus (maintenance and breeding)
  • Mus musculus (maintenance and breeding)
  • Oryctolagus cuniculus (maintenance)
  • Sus scrofa (maintenance)
