Information for professionals
There are currently two types of deposit modalities:
- Deposit of samples associated with a research project: a custodial service is provided for samples integrated into a collection linked to a research line or project.
- Biobank‑type deposit. In this case, the initiative may originate from the Biobank management itself, a researcher, or a clinician. A deposit form or agreement must be completed, justifying the scientific relevance of the collection, and all requirements defined in the Biobank's Internal Regulations must be met. The Scientific Management will evaluate the request following consultation with the Advisory Committee (CCE).
To request samples from the Biobank, an active research project approved by an accredited Research Ethics Committee is required.
In accordance with Royal Decree 1716/2011 on Biobanks, Biobank personnel will forward the relevant documentation to the Advisory Committees - the Ethics Committee of the Balearic Islands and the Scientific Committee - which must issue a favourable report before the transfer can be authorised.
Before samples are delivered, a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) must be formalised between the requesting researcher and the Biobank.
If the participating institutions have different legal ownership, the agreement must be signed by the legal representatives of both entities.
