Who We Are

Carlos Enrique Herrero

Engineer and Master of Science in Telecommunication Engineering & Management, both from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). He is specialised in Innovation Management Systems (innovation systematisation and industrial property) and Open Innovation strategies, as well as in the management of R&D&I projects for the health and ICT sectors.

He has more than 11 years of professional experience related to innovation management and R&D&I projects, having worked in both public and private environments.

He began his career as a researcher at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in telecommunications engineering, specialising in planning mobile and terrestrial broadcasting networks. He later continued his career in the private sector as an innovation and technology valorisation consultant for companies and research centres, specialising in the implementation of innovation management systems based on the UNE 166.002 standard.

In 2011 he joined the Innovation Unit of the Biomedical Research Institute of the Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona as innovation manager and business development manager through the ITEMAS Platform. At IIB Sant Pau he carried out activities related to the identification of innovation and valorisation projects for the introduction of new products to the market and supported the attraction and development of business opportunities through private collaborations with industry. He also performed tasks related to the protection and transfer of the research results generated at the institute.

Since 2014 he has been responsible for the Innovation and Research Results Transfer Unit of the Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa). During these years, he has developed, implemented and coordinated IdISBa's innovation activities, as well as all processes, activities and projects related to innovation and transfer. He has also acted as a point of reference in the Balearic Islands through the Regional Health Ministry on Innovation and Technology Transfer matters, including Public Procurement of Innovation processes, SNS innovative experiences, and business collaboration in healthcare projects.

As a core member of the management team that achieved IdISBa's IIS accreditation in 2019, he participates in several committees and governing bodies of the Institute.

Francisco Manuel Ribas García

Francisco Manuel Ribas García, biochemist from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), Master in Molecular Biotechnology from the University of Barcelona (UB), and Master in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). He also holds certification in animal experimentation with rodents and fish in all functions. He is specialised in transversal areas such as biochemistry, pharmacology, laboratory techniques, and database management.

During his undergraduate and master's final projects, he worked on clinical trials related to nutrition and physical activity, research into renal organoids, and computational construction of protein genealogies. He began his professional career during the COVID‑19 pandemic, performing and analysing COVID‑19 tests for the private sector at Eurofins Megalab.

He is currently working in the Innovation and Research Results Transfer Unit of the Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa), where he has carried out tasks such as creating innovation management systems, preparing documents for the technological portfolio, collecting indicators, and analysing best practices in technology transfer in other institutions.
