European recognition for excellence in human resources
The European Commission has awarded the Institut d'Investigació Sanitària Illes Balears (IdISBa) the HR Excellence in Research distinction, which acknowledges the institute's commitment to continuously improving its human resources policies and fostering an optimal working environment for its research staff.
What is HRS4R?
The Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) identifies IdISBa as an institution that implements the 20 principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. establishing the foundations to promote attractive, transparent, and high‑quality research careers within the European Research Area (ERA).

IdISBa's commitment
IdISBa is strongly committed to scientific excellence and to promoting the transfer of knowledge and technology to the healthcare system and industry. Achieving these goals requires the attraction, development and retention of outstanding research talent.
For this reason, IdISBa endorsed the Charter & Code in August 2015, committing itself to aligning its policies and practices with the recommendations of the European Commission.
The HRS4R process
The implementation of HRS4R follows five main steps:
- Gap Analysis: internal assessment of the institution's alignment with the 40 Charter & Code principles.
- Strategy and Action Plan: publication of the institution's Human Resources Strategy for Researchers on its website.
- Recognition: awarding of the HR Excellence in Research label by the European Commission.
- Implementation and Self‑Assessment: internal review at least every two years.
- External Evaluation: assessment by external experts every four years after receiving the award.

The HR Excellence in Research label certifies that IdISBa is committed to providing a fair, transparent and supportive working environment that enables the professional growth and development of researchers and research support staff.
IdISBa in the national context
IdISBa is one of 170 institutions in Spain distinguished with this European recognition of excellence, and it was the first institution in the Balearic Islands to obtain it on January 17th, 2017.
